What’s Trending
👉 The ICON Foundation published a 2022 recap and 2023 outlook. In 2023, ICON plans to integrate xCall, a general cross chain messaging service, to interoperability protocols beyond BTP.
👉 Messari published a comprehensive overview on ICON. Skip to the “Technical Improvements” section to read more on ICON’s “much broader cross chain initiative” targeting IBC, Polygon, and Archway.
👉 Over the weekend, Omm was hacked through a smart contract exploit, which saw a 1.9M USD loss in collateral. The Omm team is in talks with exchanges to recover funds and published this postmortem after 36 hours of nonstop investigation.

2022 Recap and 2023 Outlook
While 2022 kicked off with a setback on BTP development, we turned things around with the launch of ICON Bridge (which has also just recently completed its audit), progress on open-source development, and teams such as Craft, Balanced, and Havah starting to test BTP applications alongside continued BTP development.
In 2023, we will continue adapting to an evolving interoperability landscape by expanding use cases for xCall, a standard for generic cross-chain messaging, to interoperability protocols beyond BTP.

Development Updates December 2022
In December, the ICON team continued making progress on BTP, ICON Bridge and ICON 2.0. There have been significant improvements in BTP documentation and end-to-end testing demos over the last month. E2e testing demos have proven useful for community developers and we look forward to seeing how it’s used.
